ITINERARY
Here is a day-by-day description of the tour:
Day 1 – Arrival in Keflavík
Upon arrival in Keflavík, you will have the day to yourself to explore or relax as you wish. Your accommodation for the night is already arranged. The following morning, you will meet the tour leader at the hotel for the start of the tour.
Day 2 – Golden Circle
We begin our exploration of Iceland with the famous Golden Circle route. At Þingvellir, we step into a landscape where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart, creating a stunning valley crisscrossed with crystal-clear waters. This is also the site where the Vikings established Iceland’s first parliament, a place rich in both history and nature. We continue to Geysir, a geothermal area where Strokkur erupts every few minutes, sending hot water jets up to 20 meters high. The day ends at Gullfoss, a massive two-tiered waterfall cascading into a deep canyon.
Day 3 – South Coast
On this day, we visit two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. At Seljalandsfoss, the water falls from 60 meters in a continuous wall, and a trail allows us to walk right behind the liquid curtain, offering a unique experience. Skógafoss impresses with its flow and power, creating colorful rainbows in the summer light. Next, we reach Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach with basalt rock columns and the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The day concludes in the charming village of Vík, one of the most picturesque spots along the South Coast.
Day 4 – Vatnajökull Region
We enter the area around Europe’s largest glacier. In Skaftafell National Park, the trails lead us to blue glacier tongues and hidden waterfalls nestled between basalt walls. Then we visit Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon where translucent icebergs float slowly toward the ocean. Finally, we reach the famous Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice sculpted by the waves shine like diamonds against the black sand.
Day 5 – Eastern Fjords
Today’s route is scenic, taking us through a less-traveled region of Iceland. The road winds along deep fjords and steep cliffs, passing through isolated fishing villages and offering dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the day when we’ll truly experience the peaceful, untouched side of Iceland.
Day 6 – Northeast Iceland
We stop at Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, where the force of the water creates a constant roar. We continue to Hverir, a geothermal area with red and yellow soils, hot springs, and bubbling mud craters. In the evening, we arrive at Lake Mývatn, a volcanic region surrounded by lava fields and famous for its rich birdlife.
Day 7 – Eclipse Day
In the morning, we explore the surroundings of Lake Mývatn: Dimmuborgir, an area with lava formations resembling the ruins of a fortress, the volcanic cones at Skútustaðagígar, and caves filled with geothermal waters. In the afternoon, we prepare for the long-awaited moment – the total solar eclipse, which will keep our eyes on the sky as we await the peak. And it will happen: for 2 minutes and 20 seconds, the sun will be completely covered by the moon, and the light will turn into a mysterious twilight. A unique celestial spectacle, experienced in an unforgettable volcanic setting!
Day 8 – Akureyri and Húsavík
In the morning, we visit Goðafoss, the “Waterfall of the Gods,” one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls, where glacial waters tumble in a semicircle of basalt rocks. We continue to Akureyri, the capital of the north, a lively city with a harbor, botanical garden, and vibrant streets. Optionally, we can visit Húsavík, the most famous spot for whale watching in the cold waters of the Atlantic.
Day 9 – Tröllaskagi Peninsula
We traverse one of Iceland’s most picturesque coastal areas. Here, steep mountains seem to drop straight into the ocean, and fishing villages like Siglufjörður reveal the Nordic traditions. We also visit Hofsós, a natural pool suspended above the fjord, offering breathtaking views.
Day 10 – Reykjavík
We return to the capital and soak up its cosmopolitan energy. We visit Hallgrímskirkja Church, a symbol of the city, and take an elevator to the top for a panoramic view of the bay. We explore streets filled with urban art, boutiques, and cafes. The old harbor, with its colorful buildings and anchored boats, adds charm to this relaxed Nordic capital.
Day 11 – Blue Lagoon and Keflavík
On the final day, indulge in a soothing experience at the Blue Lagoon, where you can relax in the warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by dramatic lava fields. Afterward, enjoy a delicious meal at one of the nearby restaurants, where you can savor Icelandic specialties such as fresh seafood, lamb dishes, or traditional Skyr. In the evening, you’ll return to your hotel in Keflavík for a restful night before your journey home.
Day 12 – Departure
Your journey comes to an end today. If you wish, you can spend some time exploring Keflavík or Reykjavík at your own pace, or perhaps do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs. You’ll have the flexibility to depart from Iceland at any time.
