ITINERARY
Here is a day-by-day description of the tour:
Day 1 – Arrival in Madrid
Arrival in Madrid and meet the tour leader at the hotel. Our journey starts in this vibrant city, where art and history are woven into every corner. We visit the Prado Museum, one of the most important museums in the world, housing masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco. The Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish monarchy, will impress us with its sumptuous halls and neatly arranged gardens. Then, in Retiro Park, once the royal estate, we will discover a green corner of Madrid, with lakes, sculptures, and elegant alleys.
Day 2 – Madrid – Burgos
We head to Burgos, the heart of medieval Castile, a city linked to the legends of El Cid. The Gothic Cathedral, included in the UNESCO heritage, dominates the central square with its spectacular towers and an interior hiding stained glass windows and sculptures of rare delicacy. The promenade along the Arlanzón River reveals a quieter part of the city, with historic bridges and cafes hidden in 16th-century buildings. The day ends perfectly with an authentic Castilian dinner: rich flavors, traditional dishes, and the warm atmosphere of a local restaurant, letting you taste and feel the spirit of Burgos.
Day 3 – Burgos – A Coruña
We cross Spain from southeast to northwest, admiring landscapes that change from vast fields to forested hills, until we reach the Atlantic shores. The arrival in A Coruña is greeted by the sea breeze and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks. The city's promenade offers spectacular views of the ocean and the Riazor and Orzán beaches, stretching under the sun, inviting us for a relaxing walk or to contemplate a memorable sunset.
Day 4 – A Coruña
The day is dedicated to discovering the city. The Tower of Hercules, a still-functional Roman lighthouse and UNESCO site, dominates the stone promontory and offers panoramic views of the coastline. The old town retains its Galician atmosphere, with cobblestone streets and white galleries suspended above the port. The city's beaches, among the most famous on the Atlantic coast, invite relaxation and contemplation. The perfect setting to indulge in fresh seafood and traditional Galician dishes, in the atmosphere of this coastal corner.
Day 5 – A Coruña – Eclipse Day
In the morning, we can explore the surroundings, with coastal villages where life flows at the rhythm of the ocean. In the afternoon, everything focuses on the unique moment we came for: the total solar eclipse. On Magdalena Beach or near Pontedeume, the sky will darken, the Atlantic will reflect sunset hues, and for nearly two minutes we will experience a cosmic spectacle that transforms the landscape into an unreal scene. This is the highlight of our journey, a rare moment gifted by nature, and one that we will share together.
Day 6 – A Coruña
Free time to rediscover the ocean or take an optional excursion to Santiago de Compostela. The spiritual capital of Galicia and the final point of the famous Camino, the city attracts pilgrims from all over the world. The imposing cathedral, baroque squares, and narrow streets exude a blend of solemnity and authentic Spanish life.
Day 7 – A Coruña – León
We leave the coast and head back toward central Spain, stopping in León, a city that has preserved the medieval imprint intact. Its Gothic cathedral, famous for stained-glass windows that color the interior with an almost mystical light, is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Barrio Húmedo, the old quarter, comes alive in the evening, when local spots serve traditional tapas and local wines.
Day 8 – León – Madrid & Departure
We head toward Madrid, crossing the Meseta Castellana, with wide stretches of cereal fields and picturesque villages, as if they’ve been lifted from time. We will arrive in the afternoon, marking the end of our journey. If you wish, you can explore Madrid at your own pace or do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs. You’ll have the flexibility to depart from Spain at your convenience.
